This EPC Update dealt with the discussions and outcomes of the informal meeting of the European Council that will take place in Versailles on 11/12 March. Putin's war of aggression in Ukraine will be the main focus of this extraordinary EU Summit. What additional next steps will EU leaders agree on in support of Ukraine? Will the EU27 follow Washington and move towards a ban on energy imports from Russia? How and to what extent will the costs of sanctions and their consequences be shared among member states? Will the EU give Ukraine and other countries a strong political signal that the door to the European Union will open (soon)? Will leaders agree on concrete steps on how to enhance the Union's common defence and security policy? And how will this watershed moment affect the EU's positioning in the global arena?
