Was kommt nach der EU-Wahl?

Von Donnerstag bis Sonntag finden in allen 27 EU-Ländern die Wahlen zum EU-Parlament statt, fast 360 Millionen Menschen sind wahlberechtigt. 720 Abgeordnete werden im neu gewählten Parlament sitzen, unter ihnen 20 aus Österreich. Die Wahlbeteiligung ist bei den europäischen Parlamentswahlen traditionell eher niedrig, bei der letzten Wahl 2019 lag sie europaweit bei knapp 51%. Umfragen zufolge ist bei den nun bevorstehenden Wahlen ein deutlicher Rechtsruck zu erwarten.
Was würde ein Erstarken der beiden Rechts-Außen-Fraktionen für die Entwicklung der Europäischen Union bedeuten? Was ist generell vom neuen EU-Parlament zu erwarten, und warum ist die Bedeutung der einzigen direkt gewählten EU-Institution vielen Menschen in Europa so schwer zu vermitteln? Und sind die Jungen die überzeugteren Europäer:innen?
