This EPC Update and Post-summit Briefing analysed the results and discussions of the European Council summit, held in Brussels on 26-27 October. The meeting focused on the situation in the Middle East, Ukraine, the EU's budget and economy, and migration.
Were EU leaders able to define a sustainable joint position on the war between Israel and Hamas or will the cacophony of different views continue? Could the situation in the Middle East affect the Union's determination to maintain unequivocal support for Ukraine? Will the EU27 be able to agree on a comprehensive approach to migration following the divisive talks in Granada earlier this month? And what impact might the Polish election results have? On the Multiannual Financial Framework, will EU leaders progress in agreeing on the future allocation of resources in line with the strategic priorities for the next politico-institutional cycle? And will they be able to develop a dynamic industrial policy that enhances the competitiveness and strategic autonomy of Europe's key sectors?
