At this EPC Update, moderated by Jacki Davis, EPC Director of Studies Janis A. Emmanouilidis, Head of the Sustainable Prosperity for Europe Programme, Annika Hedberg, and EPC Chief Executive Fabian Zuleeg dealt with four core topics.

Firstly, we discussed the potential consequences of the worseing COVID-19 situation. Secondly, we analysed the situation on the border between Poland and Belarus as well as the military build-up of Russian troops around Ukraine. Thirdly, we examined the state of the EU-UK relationship and immediate prospects. What are the practical implications should the UK decide to trigger Article 16? What is the likely response of the EU27 and what will happen if the EU decides to terminate the Trade and Cooperation Agreement? Fourthly, we analysed the outcome and potential consequences of the 26th UN Climate Change Conference (COP26) that took place in Glasgow. Has the Conference produced tangible results that will help to accelerate action towards the goals defined in the context of the Paris Agreement? What were the main achievements and the biggest failures of COP26 and what comes next? What role did the EU and member states play in the negotiations and how do the results effect the prospects for the Green Deal?
