With Europe firmly in the grip of the coronavirus pandemic, the spotlight at this Friday's update was, once again, on the EU's and member states' responses to Covid-19. EPC President Herman Van Rompuy joined the debate and shared his analysis of this unprecedented challenge, together with EPC Director of Studies Janis A. Emmanouilidis and EPC Chief Executive Fabian Zuleeg.

They reflected on a number of key questions: How serious is the COVID-19 crisis and what are the main challenges? Is this an existential question, as some would argue? How should we rate the EU's response and is the criticism voiced about the Union's crisis management justified? What should be the next steps for the EU and member states in order to manage and, eventually, overcome the COVID-19 crisis? How long will it take until we move to some sort of 'new normality' and will Europe and the world be a different place after the crisis?
