Ein spannendes EU-Halbjahr liegt hinter uns, ein erster Abschluss fand diese Woche statt - die Konstituierung des neuen Europaparlamentes in Strassburg. Eine Personalie, die für einiges an Konflikten zwischen den Europaabgeordneten und den Staats- und Regierungschefs gesorgt hat, wird in der zweiten Sitzung Mitte Juli abgeschlossen: dann wird der neue Präsident der EU-Kommission, der ehemalige Luxemburger Premierminister Jean-Claude Juncker, formell bestätigt.
Mit dieser Wahl Junckers hat das EU-Parlament EINEN Machtkampf mit den Staats- und Regierungschefs gewonnen – die haben den Kommissionspräsidenten bisher ja praktisch alleine bestimmt. Aber kann das so weitergehen, mit einem selbstbewussten EU-Abgeordnetenhaus? Hat sich damit das europäische Parlament endgültig emanzipiert? Über die neue Machtbalance in der Union spricht Ernst Kernmayer mit dem EU-Experten Janis Emmanouilidis vom Brüsseler Think-tank European Policy Centre.
