Pour le politologue Janis Emmanouilidis, il y a désormais peu de chance que Jean-Claude Juncker soit nommé à la présidence de la Commission européenne. «Les dirigeants et le Parlement européens pourront trouver un équilibre autour de plusieurs nominations qui doivent être faites en parallèle», dit-il. L’UE doit en effet également nommer un nouveau président du Conseil européen, en remplacement d’Herman Van Rompuy, ainsi qu’un nouveau chef de la diplomatie, à la place de Catherine Ashton. Le Parlement devra trouver un successeur à l’Allemand Martin Schulz pour sa présidence, à moins qu’il n’accepte un deuxième mandat.
