Leaving the European Council headquarters following nearly 10 hours of marathon talks at a European Union (EU) summit in Brussels, British Prime Minister David Cameron looked both occupied and isolated. […]
Janis A. Emmanouilidis, a senior policy analyst at the Brussels-based think tank European Policy Center, warned that Britain must find common ground with the rest of the EU in order to improve ties.
"By saying no, Cameron isolated himself in the European Council," said Emmanouilidis.
"If Cameron's main intention was to send a signal back home that he was defending the British national interests, then now he is able to do so as he has a story to tell."
"We cannot assess the price for UK now. It depends on how the British government will position itself in the future. The question is whether he will try to find a new basis for the relations between the UK and other EU member states," he said.
He said Britain should not further obstruct any moves of the eurozone in order to protect its own interests.
