The European integration process has lost momentum. Different perceptions concerning the development and the future architecture of the enlarged EU are the real reasons behind this stagnation. In addition, the EU needs to react to novel international and security related constellations in international relations. Unless Europe reacts to these novel challenges, the old continent risks marginalization. In their article Franco Algieri and Janis A. Emmanouilidis advise the Union to follow a "strategy of institutional efficiency" and a "strategy of international co-responsibility".
