Report of demosEUROPA – Centre for European Strategy and the Center for Applied Policy Research: "Enlargement of the European Union- can it be a Win-Win situation?"  accompanying a conference held with the support of the Foundation for Polish-German Co-operation.

The accession of Bulgaria and Romania to the European Union (EU) on January 1, 2007, completes the fifth wave of EU enlargement initiated in May 2004. The next countries waiting for their turn enjoy either a status of a candidate or a potential candidate for EU membership. One must also take into account a group of states whose accession is only feasible in a long-term perspective. Nevertheless, there are increasing doubts regarding the future of the process.
