Presentation of the Post-Summit Analysis at the EPC Post-Summit Briefing, at which speakers analysed the outcome of the EU Summits on 23 October 2011.
The panel discussion included Laurence Norman, Wall Street Journal, Brussels, Hans Martens, EPC Chief Executive, and Janis Emmanouilidis, Senior Policy Analyst at EPC. The debate was moderated by Josef Janning, EPC Director of Studies.
The briefing was introduced by Janis A. Emmanouilidis, who presented his Post-Summit Analysis entitled Cutting four Gordian knots. The analysis argues that EU leaders are expected to deliver a ‘comprehensive solution’ to manage and eventually overcome the euro crisis. This analysis of the first round of summits shows that much work still lies ahead and warns that EU leaders might not be able to deliver (all) the expected results.
The final outcome of the October summit marathon will have to be evaluated on the basis of whether EU leaders have added essential ingredients to an already very complex crisis recipe and whether they have been able to sketch a more ambitious and persuasive roadmap that boosts confidence and provides orientation in the weeks and months to come.
