Speech at a seminar organized by the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) devoted to the prospects for participatory democracy in Europe. In his speech Janis Emmanouilidis talked about political trends and priorities in the EU in 2011-2012.

The speech was based on a paper by Rosa Balfour, Janis A.  Emmanouilidis and Fabian Zuleeg published in December 2010, which provides an ex ante analysis of political trends and priorities in 2011 and 2012. The paper begins with a reflection on the major long-term trends and subsequently identifies a number of major priorities, which are expected to determine the Union’s agenda in the years ahead.
