Joint meeting of the EPC's EU Politics and Governance Forum and the EU Foreign Policy and Global Governance Froum. Following the entry into force of the Lisbon Treaty on 1 December 2009 and the choice of Herman Van Rompuy and Catherine Ashton at the extraordinary EU Summit in November, this meeting focused on two key issues related to the implementation of the new Treaty: the establishment of the new European External Action Service (EEAS) and the future role of the rotating presidency.

The debate was introduced by Graham Avery, Senior Advisor to EPC, Cesira D’Aniello, General Secretariat of the Council, Andrew Duff, Member of the European Parliament, and Antonio Missiroli, Director of Studies at EPC. The event was moderated by John Wyles, chair of the EU Politics and Governance Forum.

The EU Politics and Governance Forum monitors and analyses current political and institutional developments in the EU. The EU Foreign Policy and Global Governance Forum concentrates on the EU’s role in the international arena and its contribution to tackling global challenges. Both Forums meet around four times a year and bring together leading EU policy-makers, experts, academics and EPC member organisations.
