Between July 14-18, 2008, the Austrian Institute for European Security Policy (AIES) organized the European Academy 2008 at the Schloss des Deutschen Ritterordens in Gumpoldskirchen near Vienna, Austria. The summer school offers participants the opportunity to gain and deepen knowledge and insight on today’s most important
security issues and the functioning and work of European institutions. This year the focus will be on the role of major powers and on major security issues that are characterizing the early 21st century.

The European Academy addresses young scientists, undergraduate and graduatestudents in the fields of European and security studies, European law, political science and military science, members of the diplomatic service, the military and security services, government officials, teachers and journalists.
